A good soundtrack turns a shaky phone clip into something people actually watch to the end. But most ways of adding music either mean installing a full video editor, or uploading your video to an online service that compresses it and keeps a copy. If all you need is "this video, with that song, starting here", there is a much faster way.
Step by step
- 1Open tools.zenwebx.com/add-audio-to-video and drop in your video.
- 2Under "Add the new audio", upload a song file — or paste a SoundCloud or Internet Archive link.
- 3Drag the orange handles on the waveform to choose the part of the song you want. Press "Play selection" to check it.
- 4Drag the orange block on the timeline to set when the music starts in your video.
- 5Choose "Loop to fill" if the song is shorter than the video, or "Play once".
- 6Press play on the video to preview, then click "Create video with new audio" and download the MP4.
Your video never leaves your device. The music is mixed in by FFmpeg.wasm running inside your browser tab, and the video stream is copied without re-encoding — so there is zero quality loss.
Choosing the right part of the song
Songs rarely start with their best moment. For short clips (under 30 seconds) start at the chorus or the drop — viewers decide in the first two seconds whether to keep watching. For longer videos, an instrumental section or intro works better under speech because there are no lyrics competing with the voice.
Timing the music to your video
You don't always want the music from frame one. Drag the audio block so it starts on a cut, a jump, a reveal or the moment the subject appears. Use the "Starts at" box to type an exact time if you need precision on a phone screen.
Background music under talking
If your video has speech you want to keep, choose "Keep & mix" under Original sound. Then lower the New audio slider to around 30–50%. A useful rule: you should be able to understand every word without straining. If you can't, turn the music down further.
| Video type | Original sound | New audio volume |
|---|---|---|
| Montage, travel clip, B-roll | Remove | 100% |
| Vlog or tutorial with voice | Keep & mix (100%) | 25–40% |
| Event video with ambient sound | Keep & mix (50–70%) | 60–80% |
| Product demo with voiceover track | Remove | Use the voiceover as the new audio |
Where to find music you can use
- Internet Archive — public-domain recordings, classical music and Creative Commons albums.
- SoundCloud — many artists publish tracks under Creative Commons; check the licence on the track page.
- Your own recordings, voice memos or music you have the rights to.
Using commercial songs on YouTube, Instagram or TikTok can get your video muted or claimed. If the video is going public, stick to music you have permission to use.
